Through the many options you can control the appearance of the output. For example you can set a target page width, or elect to extract tables in CSV format.
Options may be saved for later reuse. API users get a copy of the Windows version to help in working out which options to use. When used as a markup remover, you can select the types of tags or sections of code to be removed.
The API comes in binary format as a Windows DLL that is callable from VB, C# and C/C++ (examples included). However it is known to work under Unix, Linux, Mac OS X and OpenVMS, though these may require a source code license. |

| The Hibernate Annotations API is used in conjunction with the Hibernate EntityManager to assist developers in creating Java applications in Hibernate that conform to the EJB3 specification for object-relational mapping. Annotations are a powerful replacement for XML and Javadoc files for providing detailed metadata for O/R mapping. This API provides the extensions needed to make Hibernate apps conform to the Annotations specification. |

| Hibernate EntityManager |
September 18,2006 |
Red Hat |
EJB3 standardizes the basic APIs and the metadata needed for any object/relational persistence mechanism. Hibernate EntityManager implements the programming interfaces, lifecycle rules, and packaging archive support as defined by the EJB3 persistence specification.
Together with Hibernate Annotations, this wrapper implements a complete (and standalone) EJB3 persistence provider, as defined by the JSR-220 public final draft, on top of the mature Hibernate3 core.

| The IP2Location Geolocation Web Service enables Web site owners to identify the geographic location and Internet domain name of their visitors by using only IP addresses. The database is used to match an incoming IP (internet protocol) address to the country, region, state, city, latitude, longitude, zip code, Internet service provider (ISP), Timezone, Netspeed and domain name of the Internet user. By knowing the location of visitors in real time, Web sites can display localized content, server bandwidth balancing, improve click-throughs and sales, prevent Internet fraud, and implement many other solutions. For the advertising and marketing industry, learning your Web visitor’s origin enables you to offer unique banners to increase hit rate and ROI, customize marketing messages, redirect visitors to appropriate Web pages, display native language, or manage digital rights. |

It was introduced as a way of simplifying object-relational mapping—or persisting Java objects to a relational database. JPA borrows heavily from similar open source persistence solutions, incuding Hibernate and JDO. The defining characteristic is the ability to map Plain Old Java Objects (POJO) to the database, using a mechanism called annotations. |

| Text Disguise CAPTCHA-Image Service |
August 31,2006 |
StrikeIron |
| A CAPTCHA is a program that can generate images that most humans can see, but current computer programs can't. Many applications need the security of knowing that the "thing" interacting with them is, in fact, a real live person capable of thinking who is responsible for the interaction. Text Disguise solves this problem by embedding a word into an image, distorted and is then shown to the user. The user has to confirm the value entered into the box to continue.
The Text Disguise service handles the complexities of the image generation and distortion. A unique image is served and Text Disguise securely validates the word that the user enters on the server. This avoids the pitfalls associated with trying to encrypt the word and persist it on the client-side. This verifies that the user is in fact human and not a programmed "bot".

September 19,2006 |
Sun Microsystems |
| This API, otherwise known as JSR 237, allows you to perform parallel processing directly within a managed environment. It provides abstraction from the lower-level APIs that enable an application to access a container-managed thread. Work Manager API also provides a mechanism to join various concurrent work items, so an application can programmatically add the dependency of work completion as a condition for starting other tasks. This can be useful for implementing workflow types of application. These features were difficult to implement prior to Work Manager. |

| XQJ (XQuery API for Java) |
October 18,2006 |
Sun Microsystems |
XQuery is a declarative language for XML just as SQL is for relational data. JDBC provides a standard Java API to execute SQL operations in the database across different implementations. XQuery, being a language that works across tiers, we require a new Java API to make it work across implementations and across tier boundaries.
JSR 225, also called, XQJ (Java Interface for XQuery) attempts to do that exactly, while maintaining the familiar usage pattern of JDBC.
